K(r)ANK(y)

KANK or Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Karan Johar's self confessed favourite movie till date, was premiered on television last Sunday(18th of March). I did see it for the first time that day. What a movie!!! I don't know or understand what's good about that movie except for the songs(Shanky-Ehsaan-Loy, great job!!!).

Now, a few things about the movie that I didn't like/couldn't digest...SRK & Rani tried to justify themselves throughout the movie but, honestly, there wasn't a single scene or moment or any action on their part to justify their stupidity. They said they tried to save a withering relationship...Oh!!!Then I must've missed it!I didn't notice such a thing at all...Did you? Then please let me know...
Preity & Abhishek were left to do all the compromises and still had to take the blame for their failed marriages...
Both SRK & Rani had a lot of choice in their lives......
SRK was married to Preity - a love marriage gone kaput only because of his ego & inferiority complex (Can man ever accept a woman who earns more than him???)...Is marriage so weak an institution??No way!! It's only that SRK was a coward and a true male chauvinist(in the movie only....So SRK fans, please relax...)...
Rani could've opted out of her wedlock to Abhishek if she wasn't in love but was desperately on the lookout for it(love,i.e.). But no,she didn't do that...Why? She'd to repay Big B for her upbringing etc etc. What nonsense!!!She couldn't have done any worse than stray from her marriage to Jr. AB to repay her father-like figure...
It wasn't a movie. It was a blunder from every angle. If only SRK & Rani had genuinely tried their best to save their marriages & then if their marriages hadn't worked, it'd have atleast been a satisfactory movie to watch. But this was 3.5 hours of crap!!!

Adultery is unpardonable; if you feel that you aren't happy within the marriage, and would be more so if freed of it, then get out. But for God's sake, don't mock the institution so.
I feel that adulterous individuals are usually individualistic and selfish to the core, incapable of seeing the world from any other person's point of view. If one is venturing outside the marriage to meet requirements that should have been logically and ideally met within the relationship, then it would be advisable to separate as amicably as possible.

As regards SRK, ever since the Filmfare function, my respect for him, both as an actor as also a person, has taken a nosedive into Hades. He is a egoistic, self-centered, arrogant, irritating, repetitive, churlish, childish, and an outright pain in the ass. Unlike the more seasoned actors a la Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor et al, I cannot remember any film wherein the focus wasn't just to glorify the SRK aura, the SRK brand. I, for one, was very happy, even ecstatic, that this movie bombed.

Crap is perhaps a very mild term to describe the film, no? We must find more appropriate phrases. I think we will be needing them a lot.

I think this is one of the greatest movies to hit filmdom. What a masterpiece! Thanks for mentioning it in your esteemed blog.

As Shahrukh says in the movie,
Bahut saare log bahut saari baatein kar rahe hain, lekin log yeh nahin jaante hain ki rishte baaton se nahin bante hain - haalaaton se bante hain!!! Aaha, What a dialogue!

People who mock, indulge in mockery; those who flatter indulge in flattery; and finally those who act as adults indulge in adultery. What's wrong, let them enjoy. It's after all a movie, right?

hey maya, plz do mail me as to what the story of KANK is about.have never got 2 see it.or should i say people have warned me against it.although am aware of the fact that it is something about extra marital affairs...
but one good thing about the movie is both SRK and Rani could go about cheating on their resp's without the gender bias... :-)
Sorry, not endorsing adultery but have not seen the movie just have heard not so rare reviews about it from ppl.

I swear Maya, whatever is happening to our nation...
Movies and media reach out even to the youngest. At least the media should take care that such ideas are not entertained. But I tell you, these days movies are just made for the overseas market. Apna (rather paraaya) NRIs very well relate to such non-sense.
The best part is even in the post-KANK Koffee With Karan, the threesome (Karan,SRK,Rani) were justifying the idea behind KANK!
And why only blame these three yaar, what about the new 'sexy Sam' label that apna Superstar of the Millenium is tagging along. Its a bloody shame to the entire so called 'film fraternity'.

Compare apna SRK's Swades with KANK...Whatever went wrong with him. He could have very well influenced Karan Johar against this film. As if SRK ke bina, Karan yeh movie banaata!

@Adi : You are as hopeless as the movie.

@Swapna: I'll mail the story in detail sometime ;-)

@Krishna: Hilarious comment as usual.Keep it up yaar.

@Aarti: Rani's name in KANK was 'Maya',SRK's was 'Dev',Preity's was 'Riya' and AB Jr's was 'Rishi'...What else would you like to know, sweetheart??And if you wanna know who's my 'Dev',you'll have to wait n watch ;-))

And everyone, thanks so much for the comments ;-))
